By exploring contradictions of femininity and cultural identity, I am touching on ideas of the nightmare of femininity, the female grotesque and the distortion of female bodies in the everyday images we are exposed to through advertising. I play with materials and a process that explores my complicated relationship towards these images and what they idealize. By addressing newer and older visual myths, I mine a trove of culturally popular images, desecrate and recreate them, piecing together these characters. These hybrids become representations of myself fighting with the contradictions of this relationship loving the way a fantasy looks and knowing the realities. My own identity, otherness, the gaze, identity and expectations of the body are all challenged.
